What is Scalp MicroPigmentation?

The Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP®) hair loss treatment is a natural-looking solution for both men and women with hair loss. It’s a safe and effective, non-surgical technique that replicates the look of natural hair follicles with natural organic pigments applied to the epidermal level of the scalp. You can match the shade of our pigment to a wide range of skin tones: Caucasian, African-American, Hispanic, Asian and much more.

Suffering from pattern baldness is a very common issue with men and women, affecting the hairline,  crown area or both. For those with all degrees of hair loss, alopecia or scalp scars, SMP provides a long-term solution: its effects are immediate, permanent, realistic, non-invasive and cost-effective.

Scalp MicroPigmentation Used to Disguise Baldness

Scalp MicroPigmentation is extremely effective in disguising baldness, either as a standalone procedure for those who don’t want to undergo a hair transplant or to cover scars that may have resulted from a previous hair transplant or an accident.

What is  the Scalp MicroPigmentation Procedure?

Scalp MicroPigmentation is a perfect procedure when your hair is thinning and you would like to keep the length and create the illusion of density without the shaved buzz look. By using several shades of pigment to generate the most realistic and natural results, SMP is perfect for hairline thinning.

For females who want to achieve a thicker, fuller looking scalp, SMP can be added to the parting and to side profiles to give more definition and a denser hairline.

Initially, the surgeon will draw on the hairline as a guide. Then they will use a specialist lightweight pen machine with individually sterilised pre-packaged needles. A specific needle, based on how thick your skin is, is used to achieve a dispersed look for the first appointment. Then, after your first appointment and some healing time in the next session, a larger needle is used. After some more healing time the procedure is repeated.

There is a descending amount of time needed during each subsequent appointment. So, after your first appointment, which is around two to four hours in order to do an entire scalp, the time reduces. The last appointment can be one hour to two hour, depending on what your procedure looks like.

Recommended by Alopecia UK

Alopecia can develop anywhere on the body and can be anything from small patches of hair loss to total hair loss. Scalp MicroPigmentation alleviates your Alopecia on your head by covering the area of baldness with the illusion of hair follicles. Alopecia UK recommends Scalp MicroPigmentation for scalps with thinning or patchy hair and completely bald heads.

How Long Does Scalp MicroPigmentation Last?

Scalp microPigmentation is a procedure that will give you permanent results. However, in order to prolong the same colour intensity, you may need to have a ‘top-up’ procedure. It’s suggested that you have a refresh every  three to five years to ensure that you have an overall uniform look for the rest of your life.

How Many SMP Sessions do I Need?

It usually takes between two to three sessions before you can achieve the desired outcome,

with a gap of usually three to five weeks between procedures. This will allow the skin on your scalp to completely heal and for the pigmentation to settle on your scalp.

How Long do Scalp Micropigmentation Sessions Take?

The Scalp Micropigmentation procedure normally takes two to four hours per session depending on your stage of hair loss.

Will I need to Take Time off Work for the Treatment?

Unlike a hair transplant, SMP is non-invasive and requires no extended time off work. After treatment it is common to notice slight redness on the scalp for two to three days post procedure. However, this redness subsides quickly and most clients return to work either immediately or within a day or so. Clients can also wear hats or headgear if they want to.

If you think Scalp MicroPigmentation may be the solution to your hair loss, Enhance Hair restoration have clinics all across the UK where they can perform cost-effective SMP® technique. Get in touch to start your hair transformation journey.
